MOD Corsham is a Ministry of Defence office based establishment with 1,800 staff. The site is home to the Ministry of Defence’s Global Operations Security Control Centre (GOSCC), the Joint Security Co-ordination Centre and Joint Forces Command’s Information Systems and Services (JFC ISS).

Challenges

MOD Corsham had a fixed internal network but wanted to give its staff the flexibility to access information and work anywhere on the site. There was also a need to make the best use of the space which required a network that covered the entire office site.

In addition, visitors often needed internet access which wasn’t possible without a wireless network.

Benefits

All areas of the site – including meeting rooms, seating areas in corridors and even the canteen – now have WiFi access and can be used as workspaces. Moving non-MoD traffic, off the expensive fixed internal gateway to a wireless connection has freed up operational bandwidth.
