Q&A with Oliver Walter, Business Development Director, Public Sector & Defence, Wifinity
Can you introduce yourself and your role at Wifinity?
I lead Wifinity’s public sector solution sales. My priority is to work in partnership with local authorities and central government bodies to develop tailored networking solutions to transform and deliver essential services through robust, secure and scalable connectivity.
What services does Wifinity offer to UK public sector organisations?
We specialise in providing managed internet and secure network services, including SD-WAN, WiFi, LAN and security solutions. Our fully managed service covers every aspect of connectivity, from initial site surveys to ongoing 24/7 support.
We design, build and manage bespoke network managed services as a partner to public sector organisations. We help them navigate challenges including legacy infrastructure and budget constraints in a scalable and flexible way.
How does Wifinity address the specific challenges faced by public sector organisations?
We understand the pressures in the public sector – especially when it comes to budgetary constraints, legacy infrastructure and the need for digital transformation. Our experience comes from years of deployment in places from dense urban environments to rural areas and specialist secure sites where connectivity can be tricky.
Our solutions are designed to be cost-effective and scalable so public sector bodies can support the delivery of digital citizen services.
What makes Wifinity’s approach different from other providers?
We bring a level of flexibility and partnership that larger legacy MSPs can lack. Some traditional providers focus on technology, whereas we look at the bigger picture – helping clients improve digital public service delivery.
Whether it’s upgrading legacy systems or introducing SD-WAN for smarter, more secure network management, we work in partnership to put the right infrastructure in place. This is an essential foundation as public sector organisations move towards more data-driven and AI-powered services.
We’re hands-on and collaborative. We make sure the solution aligns perfectly with our clients’ long-term goals.
You mentioned security as an important part of Wifinity’s experience. How does Wifinity ensure its networks are secure?
Cybersecurity is at the heart of our offering. Our solutions are compliant with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 27001 standards, and we hold the Cyber Essentials Plus certification. This means that we meet the highest security benchmarks, which is crucial when dealing with sensitive public sector data.
We provide inherently secure network solutions, aiming to design networks that adhere to the National Cyber Security Centre’s Secure Design Principles; zero trust architectures; least privilege access; authenticate and authorise everywhere; minimised attack surfaces; micro segmentation and secure ZTNA remote access.
We also incorporate processes that ensure security such as rapid incident response, comprehensive change management, auditing and accounting etc.
We provide next-generation firewall capabilities such as DPI, intrusion detection and prevention and threat protection, managed through a comprehensive security monitoring service to safeguard against any threats.
What products and services does Wifinity provide?
Our service suite is extensive. We offer connectivity solutions such as WAN Edge, LAN/WLAN and residential broadband for public sector housing. Additionally, we provide secure solutions, data centre services including cloud management and a captive portal for public WiFi. Our professional services cover everything from network build and installation to ongoing management, so that our clients experience seamless and secure operations.
How does Wifinity support the UK public sector’s drive towards digital transformation?
Digital transformation is a massive focus for the UK public sector, especially as organisations want to deliver more services online. We help lay the foundation for this transformation by providing secure, adaptable networks that support initiatives like cloud migration, hybrid working and AI-driven public services. Our fully managed service ensures that as the public sector evolves, our solutions can scale to meet growing demands.
What is Wifinity’s long-term vision for supporting public sector clients?
To be a trusted public sector managed services partner, helping local and central government organisations to modernise their infrastructure to deliver better services to citizens.
We are going to continue our goal of developing innovative solutions that not only meet today’s needs but also prepare public bodies for future challenges, from data management to advanced technologies like IoT and AI.
